Ex Libris - Personalized Bookplates featuring the Art of Delirium - $12.95

Books are never going away.
Despite the cries of traditional publishers and the siren's call of e-books, paper and cloth and glue books are here to stay.
One thing the digital revolution will do for books is help make them more valuable. Fine books are not only collections of words, they are individual pieces of art. From cover to cover, books have a feel and a presence that is incomparable and impossible to duplicate via electronics.
Like any other prized possession, you want to make sure your books stay where they belong; in your library. When you lend them to friends, you want to make sure they come back. That's where the bookplate comes in.
Traditionally, bookplates have been printed on adhesive backed paper or applied with brushed-on glue. That's all well and good so long as you don't want to remove the plate. Anyone who has ever tried to remove permanent adhesive from paper without damaging both the bookplate and the book knows how frustrating it can be.
Now, with exponential advances having been made in paper and adhesive technology, we can offer bookplates with all the advantages of permanence without the damaging potential.
Our bookplates are printed on high-gloss Startack Removable Adhesive Paper to ensure both vibrant color fidelity and ease of removal if it becomes necessary. Sized 2 x 4, our plates don't impose themselves on the book. Rather, we like to think they compliment it, advertising its owner without distracting from the beauty of the design.
This set of ten plates features the digital photography of The Deep Void Skitzoid. Each photograph is straight from the artist's camera, capturing the form and flow of light in its free state, without any post-processing. They are reproduced in striking, vivid color.
You get two each of ten plates, 20 plates in all, personalized at your direction.
For book-lovers or book-hoarders (both of which I confess to being), these make thoughtful and unique gifts.

Check back often, as we will be offering more sets of plates in the near future.

Please include personalization details with your order.

Ships USPS.

1987 Pop-Swatch Blue Ribbon. Big, Bold, and Blue.

When I was a kid I had several Swatch watches. I thought they were sooooo cool. I even had a bunch of those little rubbery protectors that were de rigeur for Swatch wearers in the 80s.
I remember distinctly buying my Swatches at Macy's, where they had row after row of them on display. Yet, as many times as i looked over those watches, I don't recall ever seeing a Pop-Swatch.
Until I got this one, I never knew such a thing existed. Odd.
A Pop-Swatch is, for those who don't know, a Swatch on steroids. The case is much larger than the regular Swatch. I mean much, much larger. Also, the case is set into a sort of holder on the band, enabling you to "pop" out the case as you desire. And, instead of a plastic band, it comes with a stretchy fabric band, that is about the width of a sweatband. Those of you who remember the 70s and 80s will remember sweatbands. Man, they were cool.
I know this watch is from 1987 because Swatch's' website has a very useful identifier that lets you see pictures - by year of manufacture - of pretty much every watch they've ever made. Go to 1987 and viola, there it is. Other watch manufactures could take a hint from Swatch in this regard.
This watch is in terrific condition, with very limited wear showing on any part, band included. The case "pops" easily, but doesn't pop randomly.
As I've delved deeper into the phenomenon of the "PopSwatch", I've discovered that there is an entire community of PS devotees and collectors. Really, I had no idea. I mean, there are website - very nice, well done websites - devoted exclusively to PopSwatches. No regular Swatches allowed. PopSwatches only. Crazy.
Having said all this, Swatches really aren't my thing anymore. At least not PopSwatches. Thus, the reason for the sale.
If PopSwatches are your thing, here's one.
Pop on over and snatch it up.

Mens Vintage Helbros Invincible 17 Jewel Sunburst Dial Watch - $69.99

The dial of this Helbros Invincible makes me think of a classic Les Paul with that gorgeous, deep, radiating sunburst finish which Gibson made famous.
This Helbros is in good company with the Les Paul. Like Gibson, Helbros boasts a long history of creating beautiful, functional, high-quality products.
Made of gold-tone stainless steel with the aforementioned sunburst dial, the watch is powered by a super 17 jewel mechanical movement. A slightly off-kilter date window gives the watch a real jazzy, retro feeling. The watch runs well It comes with a non-vintage, stitched brown leather strap, but it looks good with a gold metal bracelet, as well.
This is the kind of watch that doesn't need a slick sales pitch. Its good looks draw the eye, and the renown of the maker reassure you of its quality.
Put simply, it's a great looking vintage watch at a great feeling vintage price.

Mens 1950s Vintage Benrus Watch - Handsome - Different - Unique - $375.00

I've owned this watch for a while. I love it.
I've never seen another even remotely like it.
It has one of the ten spots in my dresser-top watchcase.
I have never worn it.

I'm not a dressy kinda guy. I'll be the first to admit that my look is, well, rumpled. I like jeans, vintage slacks, plain white shirts, heavy Doc Martens, and my British driving cap. To me, dressing up means slipping a casual black sport-coat on over my white shirt. To tell the time, I wear a 1950s Elgin Sportsman, or a 1970s Caravelle Set-O-Matic Diver.
If I have to go more formal, I strap on a 1970s Sandoz Tropicalized Flag watch, or my Benrus Sea Lord. I just can't seem to find the right time to wear this other Benrus.

Maybe I'm not 'formal' enough. Maybe I'm not classy enough. Hey, I have no problems with that. We are what we are.

So, I just don't have occasion to wear this watch. I look at it often. When you see it, I think you'll understand why.

It's an outstandingly good-looking watch. It's also unique. I've seen textured dials before. I've seen secondary dials. I've seen cases with raised decorative designs before. I've seen - though rarely - floating lugs before. I've never seen all of them together. Until I saw this watch.

Now, I'm a big fan of older Benrus'. They consistently fit my definition of 'classic'. However, I think somebody at Benrus must have been on a creative bender when they designed this watch.
Classic, it is. No argument there. It's undeniably a 1950s design.
Still, it's a little outside the norm.
It's Jazz instead of Rock 'n' Roll. It's Kerouac instead of Mailer. It's the last of the great character-rich Airliners instead of the new-fangled, sterile Jumbo-Jets.

And, sadly, it's got to go.

I can't justify keeping it any more. It needs a home with a wrist that will take it out and let it play. It's not fair to keep it penned up day after day in a dark, though comfortable, case. It needs to be worn. It deserves to be shown-off and praised. Mark my words, it will be praised.

Made of gold-tone stainless steel, the case is beautiful. The floating lugs give it a jaunty sort of attitude when it sits on your wrist, different than any other watch I've worn. The creamy, off-white dial has a very cool raised checkerboard and a bold crosshatching keeping things centered. It's becoming a little worn after over half-a-century, but that only adds to its character The tiny, secondary dial gives it the look and feel of a old-world navigator's instrument.
Inside, it's classic Benrus. A Swiss made BB4 17 jewel movement keeps things ticking. That it still works after all these years is a testament to the high-quality of the construction. Amazing.

The strap in the pictures is a 1960s vintage Calfskin Kreisler that I think suits the watch well. I'll also provide a dark mahogany leather strap if you feel like mixing things up a bit.

Now that it's almost done, I'm coming to grips a little with the sale. My breathing is easier, my heart lighter.
I'm confident that whoever is lucky enough to get this watch will treasure it as much as I have.

A watch this special certainly deserves it.

A DISTASTEFUL, IF NECESSARY, DISCLAIMER

While I strive to inform my invariably attractive and intelligent customers of any defect in part or appearance of any watch I sell, it must be understood that, for the vast majority, these are used watches that I purchased used. Many of them are at least 30 years old, and a great number are 50 or more years old. I am neither a watchmaker nor watch-mechanic, and I do not claim to have comprehensive knowledge or understanding of the workings of mechanical watches. I have no accurate or reliable method of measuring timekeeping data.
For example: If a watch crown will not turn, I put the watch aside as broken. If the crown turns but the second hand does not move, I put the watch aside as broken. If the crown turns and the second hand moves but stops after a few seconds, I put the watch aside as broken. If the crown turns, the second hand advances and keeps advancing, and the hour and minute hands advance and have continued to advance when I check again, then I put that watch in the working pile.
I will always answer any and all questions to the best of my ability. Also, I will provide additional detailed pictures of a watch at the buyer's request. I want my customers to be as informed as possible about their purchase.
Unfortunately, I have to state that while I stand behind any sale that is not as advertised and will gladly refund the purchase price- less shipping charges - upon return of the item, I cannot be responsible for unidentified problems or after-the-sale problems with these watches. Everything offered for sale by me, with the exception of items identified as New in Box, is previously owned and is sold AS-IS.
Please consider this when buying from me. I have had two customers try to return items after Six Weeks claiming broken parts, though the parts were clearly working when the watch was shipped to them. I know of few sellers, retail, wholesale, or second-hand, that will accept returns of items after six weeks of use by the customer. I try to be as fair as possible with my customers, but I expect to be dealt with fairly as well.
I want everyone who buys from me to be very happy with their purchases and get as much enjoyment from their watches as I do from mine.

Ladies Watch-it Creamy Vintage Mechanical Cuff Watch - $30.00

I like this watch. I can't put my finger on exactly why I like it. I just do.
I know it has to do with the color. The outer color is one of those just-so variations of tan that soothes the eyes and calms the nerves. You could take this exact color and paint a wall with it and it wouldn't have the same effect. But, for this watch it's perfect (Talk about Synchronicity...Jung would be proud).
The whole has a very 70s feel to it, but is discreet enough to wear with just about anything casual. The Japanese mechanical movement winds up and works great.* Also, the movement has colored parts and other oddities that I've never seen before. It's neat.
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of Watch-it brand quartz watches. I can't tell you how many times they've "accidentally" slipped from my grasp and under the tires of a moving vehicle.
But, this watch is different. It's cool. It's mellow. And, if you are quick, it could be yours.

Thanks for visiting Delirium Mercurials. Be sure to check back to see our ever-changing selection of vintage mens and ladies watches, books, vinyl and more.

Ladies Chunky Blue Vintage Stretch Bangle Watch - $25.00

There is something about plastic from the 1960s and 1970s that I really like. It's not clattery and cheap feeling like modern plastics. Vintage plastic has an almost malleable feel, a warmth that you just don't find in the modern stuff.
This Time-Will-Tell branded bangle watch is practically all vintage plastic. It's a fun and funky accessory for any lady who considers herself fun and funky.
The Japanese quartz movement has just had a new battery installed and is running well.
All in all, this is a cute, lighthearted watch that'll put a smile on your face without denting your checkbook.

Ladies Vintage 1973 Bulova Mechanical Watch - Delightfully Different - $40.00

Come on.
Admit it.
You like being the center of attention.
You enjoy standing out in a crowd.
Nothing wrong with that.
Yet, you don't like causing a stir.
You've never been one to be obnoxious.
You know you don't have to act like a circus clown to have people notice you.
You know that sometimes it's the small, subtle things that mark you as someone who doesn't follow trends but who follows her own bliss.
This watch is one of those small things.
You get points right off for choosing a Bulova. One of the best watch brands going, Bulova is synonymous with quality and style.
And, this watch has a style all its own. Retro, definitely, but only hinting at it. It's not going to overwhelm you with impressions of the 1970s. The stainless steel case is 10kt gold-plated and sports a gold-tone dial encompassed by a very deep green - almost black - stripe. A modern black and gold stretch band hold it on your wrist.
The movement is classic Bulova, dependable and accurate. It is working fine.*
Case back is lightly scratched, but the dial and case front are in excellent condition. The crystal has a few light scratches, though I can replace it at your request.
Let the crowd have their Fossils and Genevas and Casios.
You'll stick with a watch that is classic quality, timeless and unique.

Approach of the Apostate Angel / Emanations from the Void Art Print - $7.95

Dante's map of Hell tapped into something deep within the collective unconscious of everyone who has been exposed to the idea of Divine Retribution.

Fixed in timeless space, burning in the deep cold of infinite ice fields, the Apostate Angel beats still strong wings in eternal defiance. Dante gave him no voice. Milton made him proud. Many have made him an anti-God in an anti-Heaven.
