Vintage 80s Peugeot Moonphase Quartz Watch. Interestingly Obscure. - $20.00

When I was in High School back in the 80s, one of my best friends had a Peugeot automobile. It looked like someone had attempted to make a BMW without really knowing what a BMW looked like. It was black with blindingly bright yellow trim and yellow stripes centered on the seats and the body always looked like it was slightly off-kilter, as if the body panels were all of differing sizes.
Also, it never, ever worked right. You could just walk past it and hear a clatter or clunk as some vital engine part, or steering wheel, or brake pedal, magically loosened and fell off. It's the only car I've ever ridden in that left a part of its engine on the street behind it as it toodled along.
It is also the only car I've ever ridden in that had a front passenger seat that would not catch on it's little rails. So, whoever was unfortunate enough to sit in that seat would be whipped back and forth like they were training to be an astronaut on one of those extreme g-force inducing rocket sleds. It was like a rite of passage to sit in that seat during a long trip. Also, the person behind the front passenger usually had to hobble around for a few days because of the bruising and pinching of knees and toes.
Needless to say, the car had lots of . . . character.
Now, regarding the watch, I really don't know much about the history of Peugeot's watch production. Apparently, they are still manufacturing both cars and watches, and also apparently, some of their watches were very nice, Swiss-made jobs.
This is not one of those. Swiss-made, I mean. It is a very nice watch. It has both a moonphase complication and a tiny little subdial, both of which I think are swell.
The case is gold-tone stainless steel which shows some wear, but is in good condition overall. The crystal is new and flawless. The quartz movement works great. The dial is also in great condition. It sports the PP logo at the top, which makes little kids (okay. . .and me) giggle when you say it out loud.
Overall, it's a surprisingly well-made watch. It has just a little heft to it so you can tell it's not made of the absolute cheapest materials available, like some modern watches.
It's that intermediate size that can be worn by a man or a woman without looking funny.
Seriously, folks, it is a neat little watch, and one that isn't very common. If you consider yourself uncommon, rev your engine, put the pedal to the metal and grab this Peugeot.
